21 weeks pregnant and tums did not work! Can I take zantac less than an hour after the tums? My doctor okayed both tums and zantac so of course I tried the tums first and it offered little relief. Does anyone know if it is safe to take zantac 150 one hour later? My doc is only on call if you are in labor and I called zantac and they said I have to check with my doc. Grrr... I think I will be changing to a midwife soon!

Baby GIRL coming October 11th!! replied: "I would try to hold off as long as you can, but if your doctor ok'd it then take the Zantac. Have you tried drinking milk and all the other options first? Milk, which I think is disgusting tasting, helps me for about 30 minutes, maybe drink some of that and try to hold off for 2 hours, then take the Zantac."

mama bear replied: "i say yes as long as your doctor knows about it I've had alot of problems with that pretty much all of my life really and tums sometimes work and sometimes didn't but there not that strong either so if you need to take zantac and your doctor knows about it take it"

Can i take Zantac 150 and tums at the same time? Well i took zantac 6 hours ago and just ate. I just got diagnosed with acid reflex so im new to this stuff.

Glyn D replied: "t's never good to mix two different kinds of medication for the same problem unless medically advised. Both Zantac and Tums do the same job although you are likely to find the effect of Zantac slower to begin but longer lasting. Avoid complications and stick to one remedy - or seek medical advice."

Heavenly replied: "Never mix two my friend unless it's doctor prescribed...and know what you are taking at all times. You gotta watch the news man"

fstladylaudie replied: "Zantac alone should help your problem. But if you must take a Tums, wait 2 hours after you take a Zantac( at least). Give the ntac time to work though---you may not need the Tums!"

Can I give a dog with gerd (throwing up) zantac if tums don't work? Thanks!

Bonzie12 replied: "Not unless your vet told you how much and that it was ok."

moondog replied: "This is a question for your vet."

Kip's Mom *shoveling dog* replied: "Dog = non-human = does not take human medicine without a vet's okay."

Bonnie L replied: "Don't medicate your with anything unless you have the okay from your vet. Take the dog in for a checkup."

adam_gray_wilkinson replied: "the best thing to give your pet for vomiting/Emesis is childrens benedryl or tylenol 5 mg per lb. and check the food. if your feeding alpo STOP."

ScottieDog replied: "Check with your vet. When my dog (who passed away) was in kidney failure which caused severe stomach ulcers, I was told I could give her Pepcid. The dose was determined by her internal medicine vet. So you should check with a vet for the correct medication and dose based on the dog's weight. Please don't give any human medications without a vet's approval. It could be toxic to the dog. Trust me, you do not want to deal with kidney or liver failure--it is not pretty."

Is it bad to take Antacid (tums, zantac, etc.) every day?!? Since about June ive been taking antacids almost everyday. And Most times it multiple times a day. I usually take 5-6 tums a day. but recently started with zantac and that helps with just one. but is it bad to take antacids every day? I dont think its acid reflux as much as its pure stomach pain every time I eat, incredible bloating, indegstion, and food just...it does not digest in my stomach. It literally just sits there unless I take something. I was prescribed prevacid for acid reflux (they thought that may be the problem) but I stopped taking it because I read that it can cause weight gain. so is it bad to take these over the counter antacids every day? What will happen if I do?I dont want to have to take them. Im scared. and eating 5-6 smal meals does not help at all. please help me thanks. im 17, 5'5'', and 110 lbs if that matters

Im 33 weeks pregnant and have a sinus infection, laryngitis, and extreme heartburn, tums, gaviscon, zantac,? nothing is helping even cutting out all acidic, fatty, and spicy foods. I got antibiotics yesterday for infection. I can't hold foods down. Only having water and bland food like crackers. Taking tylenol for headaches and body aches. Doctor told me I could take one dose of Nyquil to help me get sleep. Averaging 3 hours a night. So uncomfortable I can't sleep. Im worried if this all can affect my baby and why I am so ill. Especially the sudden severe nausea and not tolerating any foods. Any help appreciated or advice. Im desperate. Tried everything I can think of.

ALIENX x replied: "take some advil"

debra s replied: "i have indigestion alot, chewing wriglys spearmint gum helps me more than previcid or prilosec !"

paganka replied: "Try drinking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar for the heartburn. it worked wonders for me. I know it sounds wrong, but try it at least once. As for the other things you might try olive leaf extract, it is a natural antibiotic."

Flavia replied: "this can help the sinus infection, but I don't know about the other issues. The ony things that really helped me was when my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria. you need distilled water sea salt liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store. in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature. add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix. using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down. Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy. The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don't get rid of them all. Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time. Then do it once a week for maintenance. There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me. I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore. best wishes"

What is safe for stomach burning besides Tums? Tums are not strong enough for me, I was on Nexium at one point and was taking Zantac until I got pregnant. Is Zantac safe? I keep forgetting to ask and I cannot find my medicine dos and donts sheet. My doctor and I was very sure that I have an ulcer, but I got pregnant and I cannot have the scope and all that. Someone please help me out! My stomach is burning so bad it makes me want to vomit. Thank you!! I am 9 weeks pregnant BTW.

Scooter replied: "pepcid is safe with pregnancy, not sure about with ulcers? but I was told if you have bad enough heartburn to take more than 2 Tums a day to take the pepcid instead during pregnancy."

17 weeks #2 replied: "Rolaids plus it is a great source of calcium"

nunusmommy replied: "If it gets to bad you can go to the ER and get whats called a cocktail (Mylanta mixed with Novocaine) Works great!"

~20 wks along with baby # 4~ replied: "Yes Zantac is safe. My Dr gave that to me with my last pregnancy. With this one it wouldn't even touch my acid reflux so she put me on Prilosec OTC. (they have a generic) You can get both Zantac and Prilosec over the counter. Tums doesn't help me at all. It is also safe to take Maalox Advanced. Just make sure you don't take it within an hour of your other meds bc it coats the stomach and causes other meds to not be absorbed as well and they may not be as effective. If you have an ulcer, you should speak to your Dr about which medicine would be right for you though. You should never self medicate during pregnancy. Good Luck!!"

cutie-pie replied: "I am 36 weeks pregnant and have an ulcer from this pregnancy....It started when i was about 6 weeks and my stomach burned, my throat hurt, i was always nauseous. My ob told me to take zantac 75. Take 1 in the morning a half hour before you eat anything and 1 before bed....The trick to getting rid of the ulcer is do not eat 3 hours before bed, do not drink pop, do not eat fried foods or spicey foods including mexican, try this for 3 weeks but remember it takes time to heal. it will not just go away in a day you must follow all the rules for atleast 3 weeks and see if it helps, mine got so bad that i was spitting blood. it turned into acid reflux and my esophagus was bleeding. Ask your ob but mine said zantac was safe."

the_morris_bears replied: "Ginger. My grandmother swears by it. It isn't my favorite flavor but the candied stuff isn't too bad. Also if you like tea drink weak spearmint tea it calms the acids in there. Also eat small I mean like tiny portions nothing over the size of half your fist at one time. If I think of anything else I will e-mail you about it. That's all I can think of for now though. I know there are lots of other herbal things that help ulcers because I just got done helping my grandma in law make a list of them for herself! LOL go figure I can't think of them when I need them. Momma_Bear"

Are tums ok while pregnant? Or other antacids like...? Gas help :[ Zantac, Tums, Beano? Beano and Tums are my favorite pre pregnancy. The gas pains have just gotten so bad I can barely move. It happened after I ate really spicy wings and my mom wouldn't let me take anything because she didn't know.

Is Ranitidine(off brand for Zantac) safe to take for heartburn while pregnant? Im 29 weeks pregnant and i'vr run out of tums:( Is it safe to take Ranitidine which is the same thing as Zantac but it's just the cheaper brand? I don't have any mallox or anything that is safe. I won't take it until I get some answers, so don't worry. It's also too late to call the doctor. Thanks in advance.

M Kerr RN L&D replied: "Absolutely!"

Vanessa W replied: "my doctor said the only thing thats safe is tums he wouldnt let me take anything else"

momofone replied: "This is the medicine my doctor had me to take while I was pregnant."

sweetie_33707 replied: "I'm not sure. I've never had kids, and I would definitely call a doctor or pharmacist first. If it's too late to call ur doctor, call a pharmacy that is open 24 hours. Not sure where you're from, but Walgreens and some CVS's here in FL are open 24/7 and there is a pharmacist on duty at all times. Check for one of those. Good luck."

cdtspecialk replied: "yes ranitidine is perfectly fine to take while pregnant.... i was put on 150 mg tablets of it twice a day to nutralize acid in my stomach when i was at 13 weeks... i'm 31 weeks now and it has had no effect on the baby"

Kitten J replied: "I take Zantac religiously and am pregnant. Doctor has NO problem with it."

How often should someone take Prevacid for heartburn? I have taken it about 2 years ago for 3 months.? Now the symptoms are back, should i go back to my doctor to request more or try something else? I wake up in the middle of the night coughing and feel the sizzle in my throat from the acid. I take Zantac and Tums, which don't help much anymore. Can you buy prevacid online without a prescription?

cindy r replied: "Try some home remedies: ie' baking soda 1 T. w/water and drink. Or try 1tsp. of vinegar if u can tolerate it. Prevacid online, hmmmm usually u can get anything online, but that one is not usually an 'active' one online. But do something, cuz heartburn can deteriorate your esophagus lining so bad, you may end up like me with Barretts Disease...which means the lining of my esoph is destroyed, and now I have dysplasia, (pre-cancerous) cells. I am having a type of surgery done in April where they will be going down my esoph. & burning off the 'bad' cells in hopes it will get rid of my pre cancerous cells...This is what my Dad died of. Have you ever tried Nexium or Aciphex? good stuff. Plz. be careful and don't take heartburn as "just a nuisance". It is serious stuff. good luck"

Anyone have any suggestions on improving digestion? I believe at least one of the main reasons I have gained alot of weight is my food does not digest properly. I cannot lose any weight either. I have peptic ulcers. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but my food seems to sit in my chest and I have heartburn every day, all day. Prilosec, Pepsid, Zantac and Tums do not work anymore past about an hour. I'm looking for perhaps a certain food that helps heal this. I'm really tired of going to the doctor with it, I can't find one who cares enough to really help me.
