Who discovered Potassium, Lithium and Sodium? Who discovered Potassium, Lithium and Sodium? and when? please answer asap, it is my science homework in for tommoro! thanks in advance. xxx it would also help if you could answer them seperatly (i think i spelt that wrong, but oh well.) xxx thanks everyone, and thanks for answering so quickly. xxx

agf replied: "Dimitri Mendeleev 1800s"

SAURABH SANDILYA replied: "Metallic potassium was first obtained by Sir Humphry Davy, in 1807. In the Bakerian lecture at the Royal Society of London on 19 November 1807 he made this disovery public"

Goalieman replied: "From: Potassium was discovered in London England by Sir Humphry Davy. In 1807 he derived it from caustic potash (KOH). Potassium was the first metal that was isolated by electrolysis. Petalite (lithium aluminum silicate) was first described in 1800 by the Brazilian scientist José Bonifácio de Andrade e Silva, who discovered the mineral in a Swedish iron mine on the island of Utö. However, it was not until 1817 that Johan August Arfwedson, then a trainee in the laboratory of Jöns Jakob Berzelius, discovered the presence of a new element while analyzing petalite ore. Sodium (sometimes called "soda" in English) has long been recognized in compounds, but was not isolated until 1807 by Sir Humphry Davy through the electrolysis of caustic soda. In medieval Europe a compound of sodium with the Latin name of sodanum was used as a headache remedy."

Daisy P replied: "Sodium was isolated by Sir Humphry Davy in 1807 in London, by the electrolysis of molten sodium hydroxide Lithium was discovered by Johan August Arfvedson in 1817 during an analysis of petalite ore, an ore now recognised to be LiAl(Si2O5)2, taken from the Swedish island of Utö.. Although it was first discovered in 1817, it was not until 1855 when Sit Humphrey Davy and William Thomas Brande were able to isolate it through the electrolysis of lithium chloride Potassium metal was first isolated by Sir Humphery Davy in 1807AD by the electrolysis of fused potassium hydroxide"

How many protrons, electrons, and neutrons does lithium have? Which family does lithium belong to? What is Lithium's origin of name? Lithium was Discovered by who and in what year? What is the cost for lithium?

Rorie replied: "Most, if not all, of your answers should be found here....."

Jonelle D replied: "lithium has 3 protons 3 electrons and 3 neutrons it belongs to alkali earth metals family thats all i now sorry i did not know the rest. bye"

where lithium is discovered? where johan august arfwedson come from?

doyoubelieveinGod666 replied: "Johan August Arfvedson was a chemist from Sweden who discovered the chemical element lithium in 1817 by isolating it as a salt. In Stockholm, Arfvedson knew the chemist Jöns Jakob Berzelius and received access to his private laboratory, where he discovered the element lithium in 1817, during analysis of the mineral petalite. The actual isolation of lithium metal would be done by others."

when did people discover that lithium could help treat mental illness? any other information you have on the uses of lithium would also be helpfull and possibly sites that have information on the same subject may also be usefull

oklatonola replied: "1954. That's the easy answer. This is a pretty interesting site: "

How was Lithium named? When it was discovered in 1800, how did they decide it should be called Lithium. It was Discovered by Jose Bonifacio de Andrade e Silva, but that doesnt having anything to do with Lithium.

Laura replied: "From the Greek word for stone, lithos. Lithium is pronounced as LITH-i-em. History: Lithium was discovered in the mineral petalite (LiAl(Si2O5)2) by Johann August Arfvedson in 1817. It was first isolated by William Thomas Brande and Sir Humphrey Davy through the electrolysis of lithium oxide (Li2O). Today, larger amounts of the metal are obtained through the electrolysis of lithium chloride (LiCl). Lithium is not found free in nature and makes up only 0.0007% of the earth's crust. Edit: Arfwedson offered the name "lithium" (Greek "lithos" meaning "stone") showing its mineral descent. He also showed that this element is found within the minerals spodumene (also called silicate pyroxene) LiAlSi2O6 and lepidolite (lithium-mica) with composition K2Li3Al4Si7O21(OH,F)3."
