What are the side affects to the amoxicillin antibiotic? I'm actually trying to find out what "amoxiclavine" is. It was prescribed 4 days ago to my boyfriend for a sinus infection contracted in the Phillipines or Thailand. After taking it for the 4 days he is now suffering diarrhea. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

georgiadartdiva replied: "There are very few side effects to amoxicillin, if any."

Nici251 replied: "I had a rash of tiny red bumps all over that itched like CRAZY!"

hisvoice replied: "The following are possible side effects. Remember, these don't happen very often. Severe: allergic reaction (shortness of breath; closing of your throat; hives; swelling of your lips, face, or tongue; rash; or fainting); seizures; severe watery diarrhea and abdominal cramps; unusual bleeding or bruising. More common: mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain; white patches on the tongue (thrush/yeast infection); itching or discharge of the vagina (vaginal yeast infection); black, "hairy" tongue or sore mouth or tongue."

sinful_1971 replied: "a yeast infection, dry mouth other than that I think you won't mind them hope you get better"

crickettmc2001 replied: "Diarrhea, is the most common side effect, yeast infection can occur, but it is because it is taking the normal floral out of your system, rash, itching, difficulty in breathing, if you are having any problems with this antibiotic, please contact your doctor, he can change it for you.Get well soon."

Paradox replied: "What side effects may I notice from taking amoxicillin? (Back to top) Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible: •difficulty breathing, wheezing •dark yellow or brown urine •dizziness •fever or chills, sore throat •increased thirst •pain or difficulty passing urine •pain on swallowing •redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth •seizures (convulsions) •skin rash, itching •stomach pain or cramps •swollen joints •severe or watery diarrhea •unusual bleeding or bruising •unusual weakness or tiredness •vomiting •yellowing of the eyes or skin Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome): •diarrhea •headache •loss of appetite •nausea •stomach gas or heartburn"

popcandy replied: "What is amoxicillin? • Amoxicillin is an antibiotic in the class of drugs called penicillins. It fights bacteria in your body. • Amoxicillin is used to treat many different types of infections, such as tonsillitis, pneumonia, ear infections, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea, and infections of the skin. • Amoxicillin may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. Who should not take amoxicillin? • If you have ever had an allergic reaction to another penicillin or to a cephalosporin, do not take amoxicillin unless your doctor is aware of your allergy and monitors your therapy. • Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease or infectious mononucleosis. You may not be able to take amoxicillin because of an increased risk of side effects. • If you are a diabetic, some glucose urine tests may give false positive results while you are taking amoxicillin. • Amoxicillin is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is unlikely to harm an unborn baby. Amoxicillin is generally considered to be safe for use during pregnancy. Do not, however, take amoxicillin without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. • Amoxicillin passes into breast milk. Rarely, amoxicillin may cause a yeast infection, diarrhea, or allergic reaction in a nursing infant, although no serious harm is expected. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. How should I take amoxicillin? • Take amoxicillin exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these instructions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. • Take each dose with a full glass of water. • Amoxicillin can be taken with food or on an empty stomach. • Amoxicillin should be taken at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night to keep the level in your blood high enough to treat the infection. • Do not crush, chew, or open the capsules. Swallow them whole. The chewable tablets must be chewed before they are swallowed. • To ensure that you get the correct dosage, measure the liquid form of amoxicillin with a dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist where you can get one. Shake the suspension well before measuring a dose. • Take all of the amoxicillin that has been prescribed for you even if you begin to feel better. Your symptoms may start to improve before the infection is completely treated. • Store the tablets and capsules at room temperature and store the suspension in the refrigerator for longer use. The suspension is good for 7 days at room temperature and for 14 days if it is stored in the refrigerator. Throw away any unused liquid after this amount of time. What happens if I miss a dose? • Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take only your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication unless otherwise directed by your doctor. • If you have only missed one dose, you can take the rest of your scheduled doses for the day at evenly spaced intervals. What happens if I overdose? • Seek emergency medical attention. • Symptoms of an amoxicillin overdose include muscle spasms or weakness, pain or twitching, pain in the fingers or toes, loss of feeling in the fingers or toes, seizures, confusion, coma, or agitation. What should I avoid while taking amoxicillin? • Alcohol may irritate your stomach if taken with amoxicillin, so use it with moderation. What are the possible side effects of amoxicillin? • If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking amoxicillin and seek emergency medical attention: · an allergic reaction (shortness of breath; closing of your throat; hives; swelling of your lips, face, or tongue; rash; or fainting); · seizures; · severe watery diarrhea and abdominal cramps; or · unusual bleeding or bruising. • Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take amoxicillin and talk to your doctor if you experience · mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain; · white patches on the tongue (thrush/yeast infection); · itching or discharge of the vagina (vaginal yeast infection); · black, "hairy" tongue or sore mouth or tongue. • Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome. ....good luck."

"Chreece" replied: "This is a normal reaction to this antibiotic. I think he is taking a generic of Augmentin. Side effects can be diarrhea. As long as he is not itching (hives) and can breathe just fine, then he is not allergic to it."

billy s replied: "There are no side effects"

Can I take Ibuprofen, Ranitidine, and Amoxicillin together and have no side affects? Ibuprofen- for pain Ranitidine- for Acid Reflux Amoxicillin- for Strep throut

willow replied: "ask your pharmacist."

honeybeelaven replied: "Good luck."

Dan replied: "Yes, you can. They won't interact with each other in any negative way toward you. However, it is inadvisable to take both acid reflux medication and ibuprofen, as ibuprofen is often an elevator of acid reflux symptoms. Ibuprofen is rather bad for acid reflux. Instead of Ibuprofen, try acetaminophen (or paracetamol, it's the same thing), which is also an equally effective painkiller, and it won't affect your acid reflux negatively. Just a bit of advice. Regardless, even if you do take the combination you named, it will not affect you negatively. It would just be better for you medically to be taking acetaminophen. It is very common for many to take a pain killer along with Amoxicillin. This combination will never go wrong, except in the case of allergic reaction to either of the two, in which case you shouldn't be taking one of them anyway. As for Acid Reflux; I have experienced acid reflux for as long as I can remember, and it just so happens that I kept taking medication for acid reflux while having a rather bad strep throat (I was taking amoxicillin and acetaminophen). I had studied basic pharmacology, and knew there would be no reason for the three drugs to interact negatively; and they didn't. I was fine then, and I'm fine now. So switch the ibuprofen to acetaminophen, take the amoxicillin and the ranatidine, and you'll feel great soon enough."

Imaka replied: "I think so, but call your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist. S/he will be able to give you the correct answer to your question ... most of us would be guessing. Best of luck!"

Orinoco_W replied: "If you're not allergic to them, yes you can. Be aware that Ibuprofen can worsen acid reflux and predispose to ulcers. However, some doctors will prescribe Ibuprofen in conjuction with Ranitidine or Pantoprazole or some similar medication to offset this. These medicines are well tolerated. However, just because many people can take them without side effects, does not mean you will not have side effects. For instance, Amoxycillin is notorious for causing nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and rash in some people The more medicines you take, the greater the risk of side effects or drug interactions Good luck"

Fatigue M replied: "My immediate thought is that it should be OK because I have taken those 3 medications together as well. But I would recommend for safety's sake to check with your pharmacist. If you do not feel like checking with your pharmacist, you can always use or WebMD.com to check for problems with taking all 3 together. Hope you get feeling better!"

loveblue replied: "I'm sorry, but I see more and more questions like this. This is a question for your doctor or pharmacist! Sure, there are some very bright users on this site, but you could also risk getting an answer from a guy wearing ruffled purple panties on his head who sings "Ol' McDonald had a farm" all day."

Amoxicillin Clavulanate side affect? I realized i got a weird side affect from this tablet, i been taking it for 3 days now, and i seem to be sensitive to loud noises, lights, things that are all happening at the same time at places becuase i was at Pizza Hut today and i felt extremely naseauted, dizzy, unbalanced, i felt like i wanted to faint alittle, and i got a panic attack becuase i thought my vertigo was going to hit me at any moment and started to cry, anyways, i felt the same way again that day at the supermarket, is this normal to feel real sensative to light and noise? i got my first vertigo attack in June 2009, and it almost came back(August 17) and it made me feel weak and tired and real unbalanced like slight vertigo... its a new problem that might be happening obviously that i'm gonna go to my doctor for, but i am wondering if the side affects of amoxicillin i described earlier are normal...?? ps. I am 18 yrs olds Female Thanks for answering my question, i am not taking meds to dry the fluids in my ears, i am going to an appointment soon on Sept 2 to get my ears checked by an ENT Specialist, thank youuu.

Ghee replied: "I don't think it is from the Amox - you could get diarrhea, a yeast infection, etc. - but the dizziness is not a side effect that I know of - and I take Amox 3 times per week for a Staph infection. The noise/light sensitivity could be from fluid in your inner ear - which also causes vertigo - nausea, dizziness, etc. - did you have your ears checked? Are you also taking something to dry up the fluid from your inner ear? Take it easy for a few days until this reolves itself."

Rash on face due to amoxicillin side affect, what can i put on it to make it go? I have a rash on my face due to a side effect from amoxicillin, it looks like white heads but they itch and hurt when scratched....they are noticiable and I am wondering what I could put on it to make it go away. Im worried if i put make up on it if it would make it worse....would it? any suggestions???PLEASE HELP!!!...thanks checked with the nurse at my school and she said it was a reaction with something else i might have put on my face or hair and not an allergic reaction to the medication looks like white heads

Realtorific replied: "Sounds like an allergic reaction instead of a side affect to me. I would put cortizone on your face and take Benadryl to counteract the allergic reaction. But always check with your doctor first."

SZO replied: "You should have yourself tested for amoxicillin hypersensitivity. For the rash, you can cover it with bare minerals makeup or the hypoallergenic type. However, it will just cover the rash, making it less obvious but it will not make it go away. Take an anti-histamine to stop the allergic reaction."

Amoxicillin horrible side affect, what does this mean? I'm sick with a cold so i went to the doctor to get Amoxicillin, also with sinus relief nasil spray. After taking Amoxicillin, and the spray, and hour went by and i was vomiting on going for 10 hours, even when there was nothing left. Then I started tasting a bitter flavor when i Vomited, maybe the nasil spray? Also, i got this red dot rash all over my face. What do the red dots mean and why did i get so sick with the two medicines with ongoing vomit every 10 mins. Does Amoxicillin (Cold medicine) have that side affect usually? also does it depend what kind you take? wait so i should stop taking, what happens if i dont go back to a doctor without taking amoxicillin? will vomiting still continue unless alergy is cured? also the red dots on my face are vibrating over and over. Is that a sign too?

rnb_junky replied: "you could be allergic to the ingredients used to make Amoxicillin.. consult your doctor asap, if not then go to a hospital!!!"

Replace replied: "I can't fathom why a sensible physician would prescribe an antibiotic for a "cold" which is caused by a virus. Antibiotics are indicated ONLY for bacterial infections. Vomiting and red "dots" probably indicate an allergy to one of the two medications. Stop taking both and contact physician as soon as possible."

LINDA R replied: "The rash, and possibly even the vomiting, is an allergic reaction to either the nasal spray or the amoxicillin. (Amoxicilin is an antibiotic prescribed for bacterial infection. It is a form of penicillin, and many people are allergic to penicillin.) You need to see a doctor ASAP."

tori replied: "the red dots are hives. you are probably allergic to penicillin which is in Amoxicillin. The dots will go away after about two weeks of not taking the amoxicillin. Benadryl helps with the itch of the red dots."

Mel replied: "I think you may be allergic to penicillin. You must not take any more amoxicillin and get to hospital or at least see an emergency doctor. You will be ok but you really need to be checked out. Love Mel.X"

all animal lover replied: "call the pharmisist they'll know"

Is a side effect of amoxicillin loss of appettite? Or side affect of Ear Miticide? I have a 10 week old kitten that the vet came to my home this morning and she has a UTI and he gave her a shot of peniciilin and then followed up with amoxicillin plus treated her for ear mites with Ear Miticide. She isnt eating right. Normally I can feed her three times to four times daily of her wet food and today since this happened she isn't eating like she normally inhales it. I am wondering if I am just and overly protective pet owner or maybe this is the medicine affecting her. It worries me because she is so little and with the way she was trying to pee and couldn't all weekend I woory about her. I tried calling vet but not in office. Just wondering to help ease me if I should be worried or not. Thanks

larry r replied: "yes the med and infection will cause a cat to eat less. as fas as drinking if cat is not drinking much try to use an unused eye dropper and squirt water into the kittens mouth at corner of mouth. if not eating you might need to get what they call kitty powder milkmix it and feed it to her. worse part if not drinking enought could dehydrate leads to kidney shut down - die."

snapper replied: "When humans or kitties are ill, decreased appetite is common, and all antibiotics are capable of causing some type of gastric distress. Make sure she stays hydrated (h2o) and is producing urine. Antibiotics typically do not make you better instantly. as cell membranes are destoyed, exotoxins are released- keeping you feeling bad- this should peak around 2 days- after that, improvement is expected. If appetite continues to be poor, i remember feeding one of my cats something the vet referred to as "feline caviar" some science diet special blend for poor appetite during illness. Take care- keep her hydrated and she'll be fine"

is it normal to get side affects from? prevacid biaxin and amoxicillin? i have to take them for h pylori and im 16

cloud_by_day replied: "Not usually. But when taking this "cocktail", it is extremely important to follow the directions and how and when to take the medications. Biaxin is the one to worry about. If my memory serves me right, I think you should take this one with food. Check the packaging and if you still aren't sure ask your doctor or pharmacist."

Helicobatcer Pylori. side affects? Hello, I recently had an endoscopy which discovered the presence of the bacteria Helicobatcer Pylori. Now I am taking, Clarithromycin 500mg 2 times a day. Amoxicillin 500mg 2 twice a day. lansoprazole 30mg twice a day. Co-codamol for pain. I have been on these drugs for 4days now, and I have started to feel unwell and my hands, arms, legs and my collar bone are paining me. I am wondering if these pains are the side effects of my treatment, if anyone knows what is happening to my body please let me know as i am getting worried about this! I even called NHS direct about my pains and they sent me to hospital and they done yet another ECG which was ok! And they said the pain in my chest was down Costochondritis, which i dont believe to be the problem!

English P replied: "I have been treated with triple therapy for duodenal ulcers and I did not have symptoms similar to yours. I did however feel very tired and have sore gums and my mouth was very sensitive to extreme temperatures. If your symptoms persist I'd consult your GP, maybe your meds need changing. If they suddenly worsen, the pains become severe, or you have blood in stools or vomit get urgent medical advice. Maybe there are leaflets in your meds advising about side effects?"

Anne2 replied: "The treatment for the H. Pylori is very harsh. I have heard many people say they wish they had kept the bacterium. Many people live their entire life with the bacterium and it never causes ulcers. My son was treated with the three in one erradication treatment and he felt very unwell, had chest problems, felt like his heart was beating rapidly. That was three years ago and he still has trouble with his stomach when he eats, has to stop and take a breather, before he eats a whole meal. He said when he was on the three medications, he felt like he had break bone fever."

Dr Frank replied: "First things first, why are you taking co-codamol? It is a filthy and unjustified drug, little better than paracetamol in terms of analgesic potency, but addictive, causing constipation and sometimes abdominal pain and headaches. The H. Pylori eradication course is only 7 days so you are past the half way mark. If you stop not only will eradication fail, but the odds are the particular organism you have with then be resistant to both the Clarythromycin and the amoxicillin. This will make any future attempt at eradication unlikely to be successful. Unless your problems get more unmanageable I think you should persist, if not contact your GP."

angelzwings20032001 replied: "Yes. Costal Chondritis is the problem and is very painful. I am suprised that you are not on corticosteroids. And even then it takes time and patience to get through. Take heed. Your Dr's do know what they are doing."
