How often should someone take Prevacid for heartburn? I have taken it about 2 years ago for 3 months.? Now the symptoms are back, should i go back to my doctor to request more or try something else? I wake up in the middle of the night coughing and feel the sizzle in my throat from the acid. I take Zantac and Tums, which don't help much anymore. Can you buy prevacid online without a prescription?

cindy r replied: "Try some home remedies: ie' baking soda 1 T. w/water and drink. Or try 1tsp. of vinegar if u can tolerate it. Prevacid online, hmmmm usually u can get anything online, but that one is not usually an 'active' one online. But do something, cuz heartburn can deteriorate your esophagus lining so bad, you may end up like me with Barretts Disease...which means the lining of my esoph is destroyed, and now I have dysplasia, (pre-cancerous) cells. I am having a type of surgery done in April where they will be going down my esoph. & burning off the 'bad' cells in hopes it will get rid of my pre cancerous cells...This is what my Dad died of. Have you ever tried Nexium or Aciphex? good stuff. Plz. be careful and don't take heartburn as "just a nuisance". It is serious stuff. good luck"

I have REALLY bad heartburn. I have already taken one Prevacid and it still hurts bad. What else can I do? I am about to go crazy!! What else can I try to help the burning? Thanks so much!

Blazer85 replied: "Short-term, you need to take things like Pepto (bismuth salicylate), Rolaids, Tums, etc. Prevacid and many of the other stomach acid inhibitors can take a while to actually work... and by a while I mean days to possibly weeks."

Tonnina replied: "Drink milk or water, stay away from chocolate, even white can set heart burn into a fiery frenzy. If you are laying down, sit up. I would suggest going to the doctor soon, you may be causing damage to your esophagus!"

I ordered Prevacid online from a Canadian pharmacy site, i received it today and the pill is white and red.? Which i am not use of because the regular prevacid is pink and purple. Do any of you know of the generic prevacid and the color it should be? I just want to make sure i'm taking what i'm suppose too. Prevacid for heartburn, this is the first time i order online without a prescription, thought it would be easier this way rather. But i don't want to take something that isn't what it really is.....Any advice would be appreciated.

Noor M replied: "The generic name for Prevacid is Lansoprazole. The reason the pill is white and red is because it is made by a different manufacturer. It probably also goes by a different brand name or something that may sound similar to the US brand name due to patent laws etc.. Make sure the label on the package says "Lansoprazole" next to whichever brand name is on the package. Also, who is the manufacturer on the label? Read it and do a online search on the drug company and you will have your answer. I think you should be relatively safe if it says Lansoprazole on the box/bottle/label. Hope this helps you a bit."

Dan replied: "Have you tried Prilosec OTC? It's very similar to Prevacid. You can get it anywhere, you can trust that it's undergone FDA approval, and it just might be cheaper than getting something shipped from Canada."

what is a good heartburn medication i get get in a generic form? I used to take prevacid for my heartburn a while ago then I stopped taking it when my heartburn went away but now it is getting bad again. My presription copay went up to $50 dollars for brand name medications. superyduperymommy replied: "prilosec OTC is about 20 bucks a box, sometimes 15 if you catch it on sale. one pill a day, and no more heartburn!"

dstanley66 replied: "prilosec works good, it's like $28.00 for 48 pills or u can buy cheaper boxes of it"

Jonathan S replied: "I use zantac 75. it works really well. u can use 150 if its really bad."

♥ Shortstuff ♥ replied: "Please contact you doctor as to what you should be taking for heartburn."

vicky replied: "nobody should answer this due to a possible lawsuit you should talk to a pharmacist or doctor because we as the general public cannot see what pills you are on and even zantac can interact with some prescriptions/ you can type in heartburn in the google box or your local internet webbrowser or heartburn remedies and read some articles. good luck to you."

Drink it, and after a couple of minutes... relief! I am actually not sure if the water had to be warm, it is just how I have always done it. A co worker mentioned it to me years ago, and it works! What is a good, natural, effective way to get rid of heartburn? I have acid reflux. I used to take Prevacid for it, but it doesn't work anymore. But I still have heartburn. What can I do to get rid of it? I can do all but the caffiene. I am a bear in the morning. I need it just to process simple functions. Um. EVERYTHING, or just about everything, gives me heartburn.

Is prevacid safe to take during pregnancy? I work in a small dr's office.. one of the half brained nurses gave me prevacid the other day for my heartburn. I guess I should trust her but just wanted other opinions! nice try Todd! No longer funny!

heidibel replied: "I wouldn't take anything without consulting a doctor."

lvn3814 replied: "I am not a doctor, but I did take it when I was pregnant with my daughter and there where no complications. But of course please do ask a doctor."

I_am_the_dida replied: "You need to see you OBGYN now!! I found this info on Prevacids web site. And NEVER, EVER take ANY medicine when your pregnant unless your OBGYN says it's OK first. That nurse wasn't a doctor and shouldn't have been handing out medication without a doctors approval first. WARNINGS CLARITHROMYCIN SHOULD NOT BE USED IN PREGNANT WOMEN EXCEPT IN CLINICAL CIRCUMSTANCES WHERE NO ALTERNATIVE THERAPY IS APPROPRIATE. IF PREGNANCY OCCURS WHILE TAKING CLARITHROMYCIN, THE PATIENT SHOULD BE APPRISED OF THE POTENTIAL HAZARD TO THE FETUS."

How do I cure a problem with heartburn? Almost a year ago I started getting pretty bad stomach pain high up just under my rib cage. Soon after I also felt chest pain daily (like a woman in a stiletto standing on my chest). The pain interrupted my daily life. I saw a gastrointerologist and I was told it was just bad heartburn (after many expensive tests). I have been on prevacid, aciphex, and zantac. None of which made it completely go away. Then he suggested it was stress induced. I started seeing a psychiatrist and took xanax and a variety of other anti-anxiety medications. While the heartburn did not go away it was infrequent enough that I could have a normal life again but the side-effects were terrible. I finally stopped all of the meds but the chest and stomach pain (with some nausea) are back. At this point I am lost about what to do. I am not sure if it was anxiety causing the problem to begin with or not. Has anyone had a problem like this before? What should I do to get rid of heartburn?

If you eat too much spicy foods or foods with too much acid which are raw tomatos , raw onion or too much coffee and sour foods can cause heatburn as well a fizzy drinks, perhaps keep a list of the things your eating and drinking that way you will have a better idea you may find out that some foods and drinks don't agree with our body. good luck I hope this helps you out."

ESweetPea replied: "I have issues with acid reflux. Make sure you don't have an ulcer--all you need is a simple blood test to check for H. pylori, the bacteria that cause pretty much all ulcers. Then, if that's ruled out, try this: Elevate the head of your bed. Use blocks, heavy books, wood. Elevate it around 4-6 inches and see if that helps (it keeps acid down in your stomach to some extent.) NO ALCOHOL!!!!! NONE!!!!! Just stop drinking if you do, and it should help any stomach condition. It's a major trigger for acid reflux and often aggravates stomach conditions. Try to identify trigger foods. Mine are anything in the cucumber family (cucumbers, pickles, squash, and melons, and especially pumpkin. Which sucks.) Also, the nightshade family fruits (tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. Not potatoes, for some reason. But I'm allergic to raw tomatoes.) To some extent, chocolate and onions. Try to figure out if any foods bother you more than others. Try an elimination/rotation diet like people use for food allergies and intolerances. Avoid NSAIDS--main ones are aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen sodium. Certainly don't mix them with coffee or alcohol. And don't bend over after you eat and DO NOT nap after you eat! There are things you can do--don't lose hope! Just keep trying different things until you find what works. It worked for me! Hope you find a solution!"

jaschem728 replied: "Dont over eat. Dont lay down after eating. Wait an hour before laying down. Stay away from fried foods. Stay away from acidy foods. Including chocolate and pop. Drink milk. Take rolaids or tums."

The Complete Idiot replied: "try raw ginger - buy a root, break off one third, peel it, dice it, drop it in water, soak for 6 hours, drink water. (wrap and refrigerate the rest) add more water and repeat once to get more ginger out. next day, get another third out of the fridge and repeat. i have read this sort of approach can provide semi-permanent cure for heartburn... when your symptoms start to come back, get another root. it may be more effective just to chew/suck on the ginger. it should be safe; people eat ginger all the time. if this happens to help, please e-mail me through here."
