How could a person with a male genotype and normal testosterone levels be born looking like a female? How could a person with a male genotype and normal testosterone levels be born looking like a female? What are the possible mechanisms? If you could give me some answers on this, or some weblinks, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

Eugene K replied: "In order to respond to testosterone a cell has to have a proper receptor protein. A mutation that decreases the level or activity of this protein will make a cell non-responsive. The result is that testosterone may be around, but the cell does not "know" about it. Hence, the development turns to feminine, as if testosterone was not there."

I am 20 year old male and my testosterone levels test in 554 range is that normal? My sex drive is real low lately. Also my ability to even get erections over the last year has been hard. The doctors want to just give me viagra but I think its something else. Does anybody know what the normal testosterone levels for a 20 year old male are? my free testosterone was at 1.1 so wouldn't that combined with the other number be pretty low for someone my age.

sleepy_grrl replied: "I think your testosterone level seems normal. According to this article, it needs to be between 200-something and 1000. Regarding your sex drive, you should get more detailed tests, sounds like. --- Your seemingly simple question requires some complicated explaining and then the final conclusion is, "It Depends." You see, there are two types of testosterone floating around in a guy's bloodstream and three ways of measuring it. Bound testosterone is hitching a ride on a protein molecule, such as albumin or globulin and is inactive; that is, it could spring into action at any time -- but not right now. Free testosterone, on the other hand, is unattached and on the prowl. You've probably already guessed that there are far fewer of those free-spirited types than there are of the bound, a ratio of 5:95 or about 5% of total testosterone. But it's these few free 5% that drive the sex drive. If a man (and an occasional woman) is concerned about a *really* sluggish sex drive he (or she) may request blood tests. However, a total testosterone level (bound and free combined) reading can be misleading. The bound and free levels need to be separated out to get the clearest picture of what is really going on. For even if the total levels of testosterone appear normal, or even high, if levels of free testosterone are below normal a quantifiable problem exists. Then there is the matter of capturing those micro-critters--no easy task. The secretion of testosterone is regulated by LHRH secretions from the brain which in turn is affected by seasonal changes. This means that testosterone levels can fluctuate dramatically (up to 100 ng/dl) in as little as fifteen minutes. Over the course of a day the levels can vary by as much as 50%. What this all boils down to is that a single blood test is unlikely to yield an accurate picture and that three drawings at fifteen to twenty minute intervals are called for. This is not a pleasant thought for the needle shy or faint-at-the sight-of-blood folks! When you've gone through all that, you can finally get to some numbers. And these numbers are sometimes hard to decipher. The *normal* range for total testosterone is incredibly broad -- 250 to 1,200 nanograms (ng) per deciliter (dl). These numbers indicate whether there is adequate testosterone for normal sexual drive. If total level are in the "low normal" range, less than 400 ng/dl levels should be monitored. If levels are below normal, less than 250 ng/dl, your physician may recommend replacement therapy. What about the free testosterone levels? Here comes the "It Depends." It depends on a man's age. The normal range of free testosterone is 1.0-5.0 ng/dl. However, a guy in his 20's may have levels around 41.0 pg/ml ( p grams/milliliter) while a gentleman in his 80's may have around 9.0 pg/ml -- and they would both be considered normal. "Normal" and "not normal" can often be hard to define in any situation. Especially in the case of testosterone there are no simple answers. "

How often should a male orgasm for optimum testosterone levels? For the highest testosterone levels either masterbating or having sex, i guess it doesn't make a difference. Like how many times per week/ month. Legitimate answers only please.

CM77 replied: "I'm interested in hearing the answer to this one, myself."

IB Slave replied: "Whenever possible, dependent solely on the wife."

Andy N replied: "I do it at least 2 times a day,, it keeps me focused Just do what you think is good for you. its natural and helps keep the prostate healthy"

lance1949 replied: "There is a link between t-levels and sex but there is no 'optimum' number of orgasms. What ejaculation does is inform your body that you have a need for sufficient testosterone to ensure the continued manufacture of motile sperm. That amount of testosterone is regulated by your body as long as your body needs and can continue to manufacture it. However, your body does not continue to 'pump out' testosterone it also makes sure that you do not 'overdose'. So as long as you have sex on a regular basis (probably only really need it once a week to maintain t-levels) then you will have t-levels as high as your body will naturally allow. If you need higher levels than your body will produce naturally then you need some for of bio-identical testosterone supplementation. If you check out this site (http://www.hormonesolutions.com.au/ ) you can find out all about what you may or may not need."

In what ways can an adolescant male increase his testosterone levels? If he wants more masculine facial fetures and already weighttrains 5-6 days per week, should he take any supplements. Details: He already has a strong/square face with a large jaw, but would like to increase the size of his nose which is slightly concave, and make his lips thinner.

cat replied: "DONT TAKE any supplements becuase they will stop ur own body testerone production and u will be stuck on thee suplleents. just see a dr if u have serius problem . but its no prblem"

RiveGauche2006 replied: "i don't think you can take anything that will give you a different shape nose or thinner lips, your genetic makeup is responsible for those features, the only person that can alter your facial features is a plastic surgeon. It seems that you are on a good path as far as weight-training for better well being, take a multivitamin for now, as you get older than look into specific supplements, not sure of your age, but some of the supplements may not be advisable to be taken by a minor."

a male has a testosterone level at 193 and is diabetic need information on hormone levels ? this person ejactulation is rare with levitrus medication it rises and gets hard but that is all!

mandm68 replied: "Anne... He needs to have a doctor who specializes in the field of endocrinology. He will need blood test done and that will include Thyroid, testosterone level, TSH levels, and others. I have had to have both testicles removed , and many penis operations, plus penis re-attachment after an injury. I have been years, and just recently in March of 06 had a penile prosthesis successfully put in. I have been on Depo -Testosterone for years. It has nasty side effects like unwanted weight gain, it causes acne, rage is very common, and you have to be aware of it, and recognize it . I have a unoperatable cancerous tumor on the spine from it's use, and have had many other tumors removed that weren't cancerous, along with skin tabs. It as lo thickens the skin and make IV need sticks very hard. I have to have them often for chronic prostitis. It does help with erections if you are not in my predicament. It will make him feel better, or it did me. If i had to do it again i would. They really didn't know how to treat me, and waited to long to start me on the testosterone injection, as i wasn't able to find a specialist in Maine at the time of my injury. I now live in Florida, and after many doctors in Boston, Maine, Cionnecticut, New Jersey, My daughter and our church found a doctor Burnett in Baltimore Maryland that took me on and finally help me. I hope this will be of value to you. I certainly went through hell trying to get help, and my first wife of 24 yrs leaving me because of the injury. God has been good to me though and i have been remarried for 12 years now, and know there is help out there for this man. Don't quit! Quitters don't win, and Winners don't quit! Will keep you in my prayers. The ejaculation will more then likely return with treatment. Good Luck!"

26yr old male Testosterone Levels? I got the results of my testosterone test results this week. My total testosterone was 19.4nmol/L. According to the lab range, I am in the middle, which sounds good enough until you look at some averages for my age group. The lab range is a range for all men, aged between perhaps 18-70. So what seems an ok result (in the middle) suddenly becomes less impressive. It appears that my Testosterone levels are not all that good considering my age. I believe that the reason for this may be my varicoceles, grade 2 on left, grade 1 on right testicle. I don't want surgery, I 'm not prepared to take risk of it all going wrong. Given that I live in the UK, and am a pretty poor NHS patient, and the doctor said I was 'fine', what can I do? Do I have to just live with the fact that my testosterone levels aren't what they should be? I understand that testosterone replacement therapy is not the golden ticket I once thought, the cost is high, side effects, and I don't think NHS would fund it.. I understand that if using Testosterone replacement, you also need to use HCG in order to maintain testicular function. Again, I can't see this treament being funded by the NHS for me. I can't afford it myself either.

V-Starion replied: "I hear DHEA is a good supplement to take if your testosterone level is low. Better then that would be hormone supplements. Your doctor should be able to prescribe a daily use cream or give you a monthly injection."

jay s replied: "Hey, Don't worry about it: You are still a man within the range of normal T levels. Thats a pretty thorough test you received. Be happy that you are ok and in good health. I know, not the answer you were looking for. But you are fine, just like your doctor said. Put it like this; If you are functioning and you are living ok day to day, and this problem is not a huge life altering factor, you should just live with the fact that your T levels are what it is. Testosterone replacement therapy is not worth the price of your long term health. Check yourself into a gym, keep the fat off your body and stay in great health. A good diet is also something I suggest to keep that Testosterone level at it's 'natural' highest. Concentrate on being in the best health you can achieve. Good luck man."

How can I (male) naturally lower my testosterone levels? Is there any way? Thanks. I think I may already be doing so, as I'm on a vegan diet, and since I switched from vegetarian, my libido seems to have gone down. Though I still have horrible acne, which I believe has to do with high testosterone. (correct me if I'm wrong)

Tommy replied: "just look at the old fat women . that should works ?"

Harry replied: "I don't have an answer, but I am curious as to why you want to lower your testosterone level."

how do you know if your a male with naturally higher testosterone levels??? what are some indications? if you compete in a sport or do wrestling? aggressiveness? ive heard more masculine facial features are lings to testosterone levels in men? what are some others? im a BS psych major and have been wondering this question for a long time now

Weezy replied: "If you are 14 years old with a mustache, that is a great hint. I mean a Super Mario Mustache."

tyler replied: "testosterone level has been linked to: amount of facial and body hair/how fast it grows, aggressiveness, high sex drive, ability to grow muscle mass easily and others"

OSKAR_A_N :P replied: "aggressiveness ....that's true!!! but remember that some guys could fake it... facial and body hair are some other indicators THATS BASICALLY IT"

JonyJudgment replied: "a cousin of mine has higher testosterone levels and although i dont know much about it cuz its not like its some deadly illness i do now that it impacted his hight (he's a giant haha) and it also caused to start to go bald (he is in his mid twentys) he isnt a aggressive person but he was activiely involoved in sports and is a fit guy"

Fillmore G replied: "lookes like i have high testosterone is this good"

ej replied: "Get a blood serum free-testosterone analysis from your doctor. It's the only way to know for sure. A deep voice, body hair, musculature, etc. can be genetic even with normal or slightly low testosterone levels."
