as a kid iwas able to take aspirin, as i turned into adolescence i became anaphylactic to it and ibuprofen? after the onset of my period i could no longer take aspirin and accidentally had another few episode with naprosin and all derivatives. What triggered these reactions?

justasking replied: "Hi! It is hard to understand allergic reactions. I have a family member with a similar problem. She developed allergy towards aspirin apparently out of the blue at 40. She cannot take a single drop because she'd go into anaphilactic shock (and this is a person that took aspirin normally before this specific day). Later, her reaction was diagnosed as allergy to NSAID (Non-Estheroid Anti Inflamatories Drugs) but a few years after she started developing sensibility to Ibuprofen and other fever/flu medications. It's a rollercoaster really. She's like the 0.0001% of the people that develops this and the doctors don't seem to know anything. She has learned to live with it, though. Relaxation makes up for a big part. Not being able to take a certain medication when you're not feeling ok requires putting a lot of your brain in healing yourself. There seems not to be a real explanation for it, or for what triggered the reactions. I can tell you that we've noticed that on periods with emotional situations, the allergy stresses. If the person is sad, blue, or even very very mad. A tranquil environment is a key in helping an allergic person gaining control. What I can say is: know yourself. You should have a physician you trust and you should definitely pay attention to what he/she says. However: try to understand your body yourself too, because not even a doctor is going to be able to do it better than you. Try to write down every time you have a reaction, and write what you were doing that day, what you felt, what you ate, what happened. You will be able to create theories and see patterns. Know them and learn from them, regardless of what the Doctors may say (we had a Doctor that say that people Allergic to NSAID do not develop allergies toward acetaminophen, and that actually send my family member acetaminophen for a fever... you can imagine what happened. We had doctors that have also said -in the beggining- that allergies are NOT developed at age 40... *sigh* They both recognized their mistakes a long time after.) Trust yourself! And learn about yourself, and do have a professional to go to :) Goodluck! EDIT: The second allergy developed for my family member was towards acetaminophen and its derivates. Ibuprophen is also a NSAID, if you have an allergy to aspirin and NSAIDs it's logic you won't be able to have ibuprophen ;) Goodluck!"

W W D replied: "Allergies are an overactive immune response. Why people develop allergies is something of a mystery, but you have to have a prior exposure to become immune to something, so it's expected that you would have had no problems in childhood but developed the allergy later. If it's going to happen, it has to happen sometime. And as you've found, when people develop an aspirin allergy, they often cross-react to all NSAID's. And we haven't even touched on the syndrome of aspirin sensitivity/asthma/nasal polyps. You don't have that, do you?"

naina replied: "HEYYY...I DONT REALLY KNOW D ANSWER 2 UR PROBLEM BT STAY AWAY 4M ASPIRIN ITS REALLY DANGEROUS....ITS BANNED ALL OVER D WORLD"

is it ok that i took kids ibuprofen i didn't need? long story..so i was at a softball game and my friends drove me and all of a sudden my period started to leak and so i called my friend asking if they could drive me back home but i didn't wanna say i was leaking so i said i had cramps. so in the car i put on a good show acting like i had them but her parents gave me kids ibuprofen (ages 6-11; 3 tablets). is that okay?!? im really nervous i shouldnt have taken it but i was pretending i had them and couldn't tell the truth but now i wish i did. i'm not in ages 6-11 i'm 14 so is this alright?? i'm nervouss ohmygosh that makes me feel muchh better :] thank youuu! it's kinda ironic..i didn't tell them i thought i was leaking (which thankfully i found out i wasn't) but i lie and STILL say something related to periods. ahah i don't understand mee

♫MusicForLife♫ replied: "You should be ok. You should have just told them the truth though. People take ibuprofen for many little things so you should be fine... Atleast you know that they didn't overdose you."

Itsmylanding replied: "next time just tell them... girls will understand that, don't be embarrassed!"

Jason replied: "Childrens Ibuprofen is just a smaller dosage of Ibuprofen then an adult pill. I think the max dosage of Ibuprofen in one day for an adult is usually around 3200mg... You should be just fine unless you downed the whole bottle of Ibuprofen."

My 2 year old's fever will not go down after I give him ibuprofen.? Last night I gave him ibuprofen at 8pm and his temp. at 9:30pm was 101.7 under the arm. It took until 11pm for it to go down enough where he wasn't burning up. Is there anything else I can do for him? He acts fine...he's drinking fluids...but I'm worried that the temp. could get too high. I know you guys aren't doctors, but most of you have had kids and know this stuff. When should I take him to the doctors?

Joe Paramedic replied: "You are a great mom! My son had the same problem when he was little and the doctor told us to also give Acetaminophen with Ibuprofen. You give one every 4 hours and the other every 6 hours, together they brought the fever down but neither would do it alone."

the_only_solorose replied: "in addition to the Ibuprofen, put him in a tepid bath that should bring the temp down. But frankly 101.7 in a child is not all that high. Take him to a doctor if it goes over 103"

Mic replied: "What we do is give first the paracetamol/acetaminophen (every 4hours). One hour after giving paracetamol and the temperature is still at 101.3 or higher, backup with ibuprofen. Be sure also that you're giving the right dose for the medicines. Paracetamol is given at 10mg/kg/dose while ibuprofen is at 5mg/kg/dose. A simple fever may take 3 days. If your kid still has fever after 3 days, bring him to a doctor. Plenty of fluids and rest. No sugary foods. Good luck."

Can I store Ibuprofen in the fridge? I got some for my kids and just put it in the fridge. Is it okay to give it to them now?

Can you get high off ibuprofen? I was not trying this, I woke up early early in the morning with an excruciating headache, I could hardly walk, I went in the kitchen and starting popping ibuprofen, 5-6 of them, I went back to bed. I woke up the next morning (now) and I feel really good, like there is ice in my belly. I'm not some kid who sniffs paint to get high, just wondering if this is bad or not? I know this isn't normal, definitely altered.

hewray replied: ""High" no, since it's a painkiller, but yah if you took too much you're bound to feel an effect The first time I took Claratin (antihitimine) I also read the box wrong, and took 6 in a day (duh!) my hayfever was blasted into oblivion and I felt lightheaded for days It'll pass"

lolit replied: "Not really because ibuprofen is an analgesic but most medications contain ingredients which calm down any pain."

Ibuprofen Dosage for 3 years old kids? My daughter is having high fever due to her history of having febrile fits I give her Ibuprofen after every 4 hours, as her fever gets growing if it crosses 4 hours time. Please tell me is it ok to give her the dose after 4 hours.

How do I bring down fever in a toddler? My 3 year old daughter has high fever (40 C), the paracetamol does not help, I dunk her in lukewarm water from time to time to bring down the fever but it comes back as soon as I take her out of the water. I went to walk-in NHS centres twice in 24 hours, I'm told all this will go away, just have patience. In the mean time my daughter is shaking, is screaming in pain that her tummy and head hurts, has goosebumps, then she is a bit better for a while (a few hours) before it all starts again.... She seems to be better when she is out and about (like when I take her to the doctors) but gets worse when we are in, especially at night. She adamantly refuses food and drink of any kind, but then she gets hungry suddenly and has some food. She managed to keep most of it down, only vomited once... The fever is permanent. Can anyone out there help me, give me an idea about what would be more reliable to bring her fever down and calm her pain apart from Ibuprofen, Nurofen or Calpol for kids? Thank you all for your answers, they were all reassuring. The fever started on Sunday, been to clinic on Sunday night and again today (Monday), she has been seen by two doctors who both said the same thing: a virus that may go away. They checked her over, checked her urine for infection and found nothing obvious, but they haven't seen her shake and scream in pain. My daughter just sat there smiling sweetly and being checked over while I felt like an idiot, and when we got home the whole nightmare started again both times. Her fever was present throughout though, at home and at the clinics. It has subsided now, she is sleeping peacefully, thank goodness. Hope this is the end of it all. We've been through some vomiting episodes 2 moths ago and it lasted for 2 weeks until she has been given some antibiotics. She is usually a healthy little girl, we never had anything like this in her three years. Thanks for all your answers and advice, wish I could leave you all a best answer Thanks, "justme", that is a good tip, I did know it and I did do the vinegar thing first of all, but I still ended up putting her in the bath, as her fever was too high at the time.

How much....? How many mg/pills of Ibuprofen is considered an overdose. If the kid weighs 54.4 kg or 120 lbs?

lilangelwasdevil replied: "i would say anything over 400mg or 2 pills is an overdose. although side effects may not manifest as an actual overdose. my rule is anything more than the recommended dose is an overdose. you do not have to take 20 tablets to have an overdose. If the reccomended dose is 2 tablets. taking 3 tablets is an overdose"

Stephanie A replied: "adults and children 12 years and older • take 1 tablet or caplet (200 mg) every 4 to 6 hours while symptoms persist • if pain or fever does not respond to 1 tablet or caplet(200 mg), 2 tablets or caplets (400 mg) may be used • do not exceed 6 tablets or caplets in 24 hours, unless directed by a doctor children under 12 years • ask a doctor"

pharmgrl replied: "Toxic effects are less likely at levels of 100 mg/kg, but levels of 400 mg/kg are considered to be an overdose of ibuprofen. It has not been possible to determine a precise dose that is considered overdosing, because the risk varies from person to person depending on factors as age, weight, and individual medical history. For children, overdose may be at levels over 200 mg/kg. Patients who ingest ibuprofen at levels over 200 mg/kg should be taken to the hospital and given activated charcoal. Overdose symptoms typically present within 4 hours of ingestion. To reach the 200 mg/kg level, a child who weighs 54.4 kg would have to ingest ~55 200 mg ibuprofen tablets, ~28 400 mg ibuprofen tablets, ~218 50 mg (Children's Advil) tablets, or ~109 100 mg (Junior Strength Advil) tablets. Of course these levels are extremely high, and if a child ingests more than the recommended dosage, you should contact your doctor or poison control just to be safe."

What is timeframe for healing process of broken/fractured big toe? About two months ago I was doing some yardwork & fell. My right big toe went completely UNDER my foot while the other four toes stayed normal. I didn't go to the doctor since I already knew that if I had broken or fractured my toe the doctor would simply "buddy wrap" it and send me home. So, I "buddy wrapped" it myself, took some ibuprofen and wimpered my way to the movies with my kids to see Transformers that evening. I really thought that I'd be "over" it by now, but my toe is still bothersome. I can walk fine, but my foot is a little stiff (especially first thing in the morning) and I find myself walking on the "side" of my foot to protect my toe sometimes. I can move my toe but not as aggressively as my left big toe. And there is still some bruising around the big toe bone joint. Is this a normal healing time frame, or should my toe have healed by now? Just wondering if I need to see or doc or simply give it a little more time to heal. Thanks.
