I have to decided to stop taking propecia because of the side effects. However i want to atleast maintain my? Hair. Should the transition from Propecia to say Rogaine be pretty smooth? Should I take Rogaine with propecia for awhile then slowly get off Propecia? I just can't take the sexual sideeffects of Propecia anymore even though it has worked great as far as my hair is concerned.

sean24seven replied: "ask your doctor to be sure, but i think that may be a good alternative, i wouldn't recommend using them both at the same time however."

tony rome replied: "Rogaine only helped maintain the hair i had when i used it, if propecia is stalling your sex life stop using it and try the rogaine, hope this helps"

happygirl replied: "You should be able to just switch products. but if you feel more comfortable using both for a bit it is ok, rogaine does not change blood serums levels of propecia, it works topically and won't cause drug interactions. If you do have problems the most likely cause will be straight up allergy to rogaine."

Can the combination of Suboxone and Propecia cause low to no semen when one ejaculates? I have just gone on suboxone about 2 months ago for help getting off off opiods. Although my sex drive was lowered during the time I was on oxycodone, my semen level was close to the same as before I began taking the oxycodone. It was when I switched to the Subs that my sex drive diminished and my semen became non-existant. I have been on the Propecia for about 6 years now with no previous problems. I know that there are sexual side effects of Propecia, however, I have never experienced such problems throughout my 6 years of use for hair loss. I have looked for the low to no semen side effect in just suboxone alone but only found people who had lowered sex drive and ED, along with some people who are having trouble urinating. Are my side effect experiences something abnormal or do you think that the combination of two drugs that are known to have sexual side effects are to blame?

Mary H replied: "I think that's something to ask your doctor about."

HELP! Should i take propecia or not.? i am 18 yrs old and i am about to get propecia prescribed to me tommorrow. I have receding hairline but isnt that bad yet. i want to stop it and regrow it as soon as possiple. The only reason im 2nd guessin to take propecia is becuz of the sexual side effects! Help plz. I need detail about these side effects and how long they last or are they permanent!?

Hermes replied: "The sexual side effects are rare and not permanent. The loss of hair, if you do not do something quickly, can become permanent for many men. Take the pills (but remember, that's forever.) Kindest thoughts, Hermes"

rightoff replied: "Propecia is the name of the drug Finasteride prescribed in 1mg doses to combat hair loss in men. Propecia side effects include some forms of sexual dysfunction which may alarm some users. The information below is from a study done to show the effects of Propecia. The effects of Propecia and the side effects were noted on 1,553 males who took Propecia over a 2 year period. Clinical trials produced the following statistics for Propecia side effects: Decrease in sexual desire: 1.8% Problems with erection: 1.3% Decrease in semen volume ejaculated: 1.2% To put these figures into perspective, when monitoring Propecia's side effects, 3.8% experienced some kind of sexual dysfunction while 2.1% of the men using a placebo also experienced the same problems. Additionally, these side effects were reversible in the men who discontinued taking Propecia and within some weeks they had disappeared. One point to note is that the stopping of Propecia can result in losing any hair that has been regrown. The drug needs to be taken indefinitely to maintain the hair growth and density. However, if you discontinued taking the drug after experiencing the Propecia side effects noted above, it is very unlikely you would experience any decrease in hair growth. This is because it takes between three to six months of daily use to see any increase in hair growth and the side effects are experienced well before then. As Propecia effects hormone levels some men experienced tenderness in the breast. However, this was a small number and no more than those who used the placebo. This perhaps is the most worrying aspect about Propecia's side effects. The fact that you are young means that you may have to continue taking this drug perhaps for decades for male pattern baldness and to maintain your level of hair growth. Since it was only approved in 1998 no one can really say what all the side effects really are."

SZO replied: "Propecia is actually a medication used to treat an enlarged prostate, and it was only after further research that it was seen to be effective for male pattern hair loss. Side effects of propecia will last as long as your body is taking it. Sexual side effects vary in occurrence for each individual. If you are truly intent on trying it to regrow your hair, propecia is found to be the safer medication to take than other hair loss products in the market. I suggest trying it first and checking on how it affects you."
